Last week I was invited to witness the rebirth of the new Hennessy V.S.O.P. bottle @ Doubletree Hilton. I doubt the name Hennessy will sound unfamiliar to anyone especially to party goers right. I was pretty excited to attend it as well since I’m a big fan of Hennessy.
*winks* I think you can see for yourself from the numbers of times I attended Hennessy Artistry alone only. lol! I was quite stunned when I saw the setup. Normally a launching event tend to be more simple & nothing much going on but this is the total opposite in Hennessy launching! I actually felt like I attended Hennessy Artistry but in a more exclusive manner.
*super big wide smile*
Do you know that the legend of Hennessy V.S.O.P started on 7 October 1817 when the future King George IV of England asked the great French cognac House to supply him with a special cognac? He described in the records with the 4 key words, “Very Superior Old Pale”. As you can expect, this cognac has remain the same for almost two centuries. There were a dual theme concept for the launch. It begun in the
white room where the official launch of the new Hennessy V.S.O.P. bottle was held. Afterwards, it was continued in the
black room where the party starts.
*woots*
It is normal for such an iconic cognac to be shown in a premium bottle. In 1898, the bottle went through its first modernization process; since then V.S.O.P is moving resolutely into the 21st century with the help of designer Chris Bangle of course. FYI, he is a legendary figure in the automobile world, who has redesigned the Hennessy V.S.O.P bottle by ensuring its elegance is brought forward into the future. Chris Bangle said,
“designing for Hennessy gave me the same sensations as working on designs for fast BMWs or a great Rolls Royce. It is that experience of a unique emotion,”.
Once Chris Bangle understand the deepest secrets of Hennessy V.S.O.P, he was able to visualize the cognac’s new silhouette. As seen on the photo above, he accentuated the curves on the sides of the bottle, thereby reinforcing its silhouette’s dynamics. He also lengthened its neck & straight ened its shoulders, stretching it vertically. Being inspired by the 1954 bottle design of Hennessy V.S.O.P., Chris Bangle designed in an enriched base resembling a pedestal to distinguish the whole with opulence while maintaining its stability.
Taken into account of the optical effect, the front of the bottle evokes a pyramid perspective. Unconsciously, this provides an upward vanishing point to attract the eye toward the top of the bottle where Chris Bangle has chosen to engrave the legendary arm & axe of the Hennessy family into the glass itself. Not only that, he placed the symbolic Hennessy V.S.O.P. oval label in dark grey ennobled with golden embossing a few millimetres from this. It is definitely not a walk in the park to create a bottle design as you can see.
Not forgetting the box that the bottle comes in has also been given a new dashing look. This time giving its edges over to a more modern vision: the sides have been refined & dramatized by photographer Adam Savitch. For Hennessy, it is their never ending pursuade of design aesthetics & ergonomics as quality & security are the main virtues which V.S.O.P embodies.. Thus, this is how the future is made, by designing legends.

Jess looking pretty as usual in her smoking red hair.
However, this wouldn’t be possible without Oliver Paultes, member of the tasting committe & “head of distilleries and communication of eau-de-vie know-how” at the heart of the world’s biggest cognac house, Hennessy. He is the son & grandson of master blenders in the region. People, this man knows what he is talking about. I think is fair to say that Olivier Paultes has spent his whole life understanding the culture of France’s most famous distilled spirit.
On the other hand, Christopher Edward "Chris" Bangle is an American automobile designer who is well known for his daring design & far-reaching influence. He made a name for himself for his work as Chief of Design for BMW Group, where he was responsible for the BMW, MINI & Rolls-Royce motor cars from 1992 to 2006. Also, he was the first American chief of design of BMW on October 1, 1992, where he designed the Z9 Gran Turismo concept car! *jaw drops*
